This morning I went for a short cycle (20km) early, before the traffic built up. I had been cycling along Belconnen Way, one of the main thoroughfares into Civic, and had decided to move on to the cycle path just after the Eastern Valley Way intersection. I did hear a strange noise but was concentrating on navigating my way on to the cycle path when suddenly a large kangaroo went bounding past, right.in.front.of.me. I think the words “holy crap” might have passed my lips at this point. Had I been going faster we may have collided and I know who would’ve come worse of, and I don’t think it would have been the kangaroo. If my heart rate wasn’t up before this, it certainly was now!
That’s the closest I have come to a kangaroo while out on my bike. I have had the experience of a kangaroo bounding up behind and then past me when I was running up a hilly road close to home a few years ago, in the very early hours of a wintry morning. That had frightened the living daylights out of me because I hadn’t been expecting it!
The rest of the ride was uneventful, thank goodness.
Tomorrow: the plan is to do a short run in the morning, meet the girls for brekkie, then meet another friend for lunch, and do a bike intervals session after work. What a shame there is work in between to spoil what will be a lovely day
“A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside.” - Winnie The Pooh quote

Yes, that’s scary. Had one jump in front of me when I was riding the mtn bike to work in the dark once. Would make a nasty accident. Take care!
