Monday afternoon run: Speedy Geese session
Location: Parliament House
Session: continuous 200m intervals for 32mins(?)
Distance: 14.2km
Time: 1hr 31.13min
Av pace: 6.24min/km (definitely doesn’t tell the whole story – there was 32mins of continuous 200m intervals in there)
Cals: 823

This afternoon I was in a world of pain; my own personal purgatory. I had decided on a whim to go to a Speedy Geese session at Parliament House. Well it seemed like a great idea at 6am this morning!

Apparently it’s been 2 years since I last went to a session so it has been a while. There were a couple of familiar faces (yes Ewen I mean you!) but many I didn’t know. Ruth and I had managed a short 3km warm up before the main session started. After the warm up proper, the session was 200m intervals and it was left up to us as to how we’d run them. I decided to take the ‘easy’ option of continuous 200m intervals. There is a flat straight section on grass where I would pick up the pace on each lap and use the meandering gravel trail to recover.

Did I mention that it was hot? It was probably in the high 20s but felt hotter, especially during the interminable intervals. That would have to be the longest 30mins I’ve experienced – I felt as though I was stuck in limbo and would be running 200m intervals for an eternity.

Finally that whistle blew. Thank god I could stop….briefly…before the cool down. I wasn’t even up for conversation I was that knackered. But gradually I recovered and Ruth and I managed another lap (1.8km) before finishing for the day.

It was lovely to see you CJ. And it better not be 2 years before your next appearance!

It may take me that long to recover from this one. But I’ll be back. Obviously a sucker for punishment. But it has to be good for me. Yes?
