Note to self: never complain about not having a summer. Today it reached 41.6 degrees Celsius just after 2pm. Even now at 8.30pm it’s still a bit over 34 degrees Celsius. It’s definitely a case of be careful what you wish for.
Summer has returned with a vengeance this year. Today was also the 10 year anniversary of the Canberra bushfires and anyone who was here at the time will never forget that day when the fires swept through suburbia with devastating results.
There is one advantage to working at this time of year – being in an air-conditioned office. It was only when I went out at lunchtime and then when I walked to my car after work, did I realise how hot it was. There was also a hot, dry wind blowing. Thank god for car air conditioning – it was really appreciated this afternoon.
I went swimming again this morning, three days in a row now. It was the same session, just swum a little faster with shorter breaks.
Tomorrow I plan on running an easy 5km. It is also forecast to be a lot cooler – approx 27 degrees. Here’s hoping they’ve got it right. And here’s hoping my back has settled down and doesn’t give me grief afterwards.
The following quote has particular relevance for me today as I’ve heard news of someone who is in intensive care with a severe head injury. Appreciate every minute of your life, hug your friends and family, as you never know what’s around the corner.
“Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don’t wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether its at work or with your family.” – Earl Nightingale
